The movie The Proposal follows the classic formula for Romance. This movie starts just as most romantic comedies. The two main characters don't necessarily like each other but are thrown together in an akward situation and forced to not only get along but pretend they are in love. That, of course, leads to them really falling head over heals for eachother. Just after they realize that they really have formed a bond and loving relationship, something threatens to come between them. They are forced to explained to everyone why they lied and that their feelings are real now. This movie, as well as most, have several querky characters and strange situations.The Proposal is the story of an editor-in-chief of a book publishing company that is in danger of being deported back to Canada from the US. She tells immigration and the executives at her company that she is getting married to her assistant, whom she does not get along with at all. After telling this little white lie to the executives, she then informs her assistant. He was not happy about the situation but decided to go along. He then found a way to get the upper hand. When the INS asked them to prove that they are a couple the assistant spoke up and said that they are going to spend time with his strange family in Alaska. After a few days of the average comical events they end up falling in love.
This movie plays into all emotions of the romintic comedy fan. It offers scandle, drama, romance, and comedy. It also doesn't hurt that the actors in this movie, just as most other romantic comedies, are beautiful. Romantic comedies offer something for most people. This mixture feeds all of the needs that people go to the movies to fulfill. Most people that watch romantic comedies are also drawn in because a small part of them that wishes something like this would happen to them. They are living their fanticies through the characters of these movies.
